# Retrieve latest policy period effective date

Retrieve latest policy period effective date.

| Field | Value |
| --- | --- |
| **Operation ID** | OP-001 |
| **Trigger** | A caller needs the most recent policy period row for a policy number. |
| **Inputs** | `IDataPortalInfo`, policy number |
| **Outputs** | Latest policy period effective date |
| **Primary components** | `PolicyInformation` |
| **Entry point** | `Business\SAIF.Business.Policy\PolicyInformation.vb` |

## Steps

1. Create and execute [SQL-008](../sql/SQL-008-saif-business-policy.md) against [POLICY_PERIOD](../database-tables.md#policy_period).
2. Bind the policy number once and let Oracle evaluate the correlated maximum-date subquery.
3. Convert the scalar result to `Date` and return it to the caller.
4. Apply related business rules: [BR-POL-001](../business-rules.md#br-pol-001-latest-policy-period-date-comes-from-the-maximum-effective-date)

## Process flow

The following diagram visualizes the main control flow for this operation.

## Failure and edge-case behavior

- Business rules are cross-referenced from the catalog page and the SQL or procedure logic cited in these steps.
- Database and procedure failures surface according to the underlying implementation path.
