# PolicyStatusEnums

`PolicyStatusEnums` is where the meaning of a policy status code lives. It publishes the raw codes as constants — `"0"` for active, `"5"` for cancelled, the `P`-prefixed application codes, the `PMS` codes — and the conversions in both directions between those codes and the enumerations. Consumers compare enumerated statuses rather than string literals, and the mapping is defined once here.

## Purpose

- Publishes the stored policy status and status-group codes as named constants.
- Converts between stored codes and their enumerated forms in both directions.
- Keeps status interpretation out of consuming code, which is what makes the status shown on a policy header consistent ([BR-014](../../business-rules.md#br-014-association-date-defaults-differ-per-association-family-and-detail-load-failures-are-non-fatal)).
