# SAIFTextBox

A textbox that can show a live character counter for multi-line, length-limited input, requiring both a positive `MaxLength` and explicit opt-in before the counter appears [BR-V2-096](../../business-rules.md#br-v2-096-character-counter-requires-multi-line-positive-maxlength-and-opt-in).

## Purpose
- Only shows the character counter when the textbox is multi-line, `MaxLength` is positive, and `ShowCharacterCounter` is explicitly enabled [BR-V2-096](../../business-rules.md#br-v2-096-character-counter-requires-multi-line-positive-maxlength-and-opt-in).
- Publishes the maximum length as a client-side attribute so script can enforce/display it [BR-V2-097](../../business-rules.md#br-v2-097-maximum-length-published-as-a-client-attribute).
