SAIF.Business.Claim.Legal is the largest business-layer library in the LegalMaintenance solution — 85 public classes, 52 nested Friend Class Criteria types, 1 public module (mdlCodeTables), and 5 public enums across ~22,677 lines of VB.NET — providing all business logic for legal-case administration, attorney assignment, and legal correspondence in the SAIF Business Object Framework (BOF) stack.

Purpose

  • Manages the full legal-case lifecycle: intake, scheduling/hearings, appeals and brief deadlines, outcomes, notes, costs, consolidation, file creation, and acknowledgement (LegalNet\).
  • Drives attorney assignment processing, including Outlook/Exchange calendar synchronization (clsAssignmentProcess).
  • Maintains administrative reference data that supports attorney availability and assignment: attorney profiles/schedules/conflicts, policy and worker assignments, hearing locations, other firms, legal persons, and out-of-town rotation (TableMaint\).
  • Generates letter requests and Xpressions XML payloads for legal correspondence (Print\).
  • Supplies 31 documented cached code-table lookups used throughout the library (mdlCodeTables).
  • Consumed by the LegalMaintenance ASP.NET WebForms presentation layer as its primary business/domain service*.

Responsibilities

  • Enforce documented business rules via the BOF rules engine (<RuleData> attributes registered in AddBusinessRules()) — see Business rules.
  • Persist all data through Oracle, predominantly via stored-procedure packages pk80001_legalnet, pk80005_assignment, and pk82289_legalnet_letters, supplemented by application-layer inline SQL.
  • Synchronize attorney and case schedules with Microsoft Exchange/Outlook calendars.
  • Generate and track legal letter requests for the Xpressions document platform.
